More apps for the damsel in distress

In India women are considered to be the pride of ones’ family. But sadly the state of affairs is quite the contrary. They are being exploited far too much in every nook and corner. With the atrocities on women reaching new heights in our country it has become more than ever important to better equip them with safety measures. Be it our loved ones or peers lets make sure that they are equipped with one of these apps.

1. Life 360 family locator

This app uses GPS tracking. Instead of just sending SOS messages it also gives automatic alerts when your family members visit or leave your frequented locations. For instance you can keep track of your kids entering or leaving schools, playgrounds, bakeries, libraries, etc. It would definitely give parents a peace of mind but lets just hope this doesn’t become an obsession in the name of tracking.
Its a free app that can be downloaded from iTunes App Store or Google Play or blackberry store.

2. bsafe

This uses a GPS safety alarm that sends SOS messages during emergencies just like the fight back app. All you have to do is press a big red button to alert your contacts. The best feature of this app is that it allows selected friends to follow you live from a distance with real-time GPS tracking.

You can download it for free from the iTunes App Store or Google Play or blackberry store.

3. Circle of 6

This app also uses a GPS tracking system. Once you press the help button your 6 select friends receive an SOS message with your current location so that they can find you.
It’s available for free in iTunes App Store or Google Play.

4.SOS Whistle

Unlike other apps SOS whistle does not send an SOS message instead it triggers a very loud whistle. It doesn’t matter if the cell is in silent or vibration once you tap the screen it will start an alarm. But keep in mind the limitations it poses when in isolated areas.

It can be downloaded from Google Play.

5. Fightback

This is an India specific app that functions on all smartphones and java enabled devices. A new sms feature would also be introduced to support the non smartphone users. For further details you may check our previous article here.

It’s a paid app and can be downloaded here.
